The Power of the Grounding Cord‏

The earth is like a 5 year old child who gives her full attention to whatever is in front of her. She loves to be noticed, wants to be infused with all things and is a constant best friend to all human beings. All we need to do is consciously become aware of her and the friendship is complete.

Here is the deal--the earth is always present with us but we are not always present with her! I would have to say that most of the time we go about our lives without really noticing her. We walk on her, sleep on her, bathe on her, and on and on, and we do all of this without really noticing her. This blog is about connecting to her in a direct way which will allow you to anchor into the earth energetically so that your whole being can be in its most present space.

Within my last few blogs I wrote about spiritual foundation and how meditation is one of the tools to having a balanced spiritual foundation. Within meditation and as an ‘anytime energizer’, I feel very strongly thatgrounding oneself is one of the most impactful tools to attain this balance.
Grounding is a consistent process of connecting to presence and the earth, and a simple tool to use within meditation and throughout your daily walk through life. Here is how it works. Within your mind’s eye you envision a ‘grounding cord’ which looks like a light beam or laser beam. Then visualize the grounding cord, or mentally intend the grounding cord, to connect from you to the earth. Think of it like plugging a lamp into an outlet. You are the lamp, the earth is the outlet, and the electrical cord is the light beam or grounding cord running from you to the earth. I choose to see the grounding cord coming out of my tailbone simply because it is at the base of where we sit. This simple technique is the most valuable guided imagery tool that you can use.

When you connect to the earth she finds this very exciting and wants to be present and play with you all the time. Each time you connect to her your conscious awareness ignites and your ability to stay focused and present becomes stronger.

Here are some of the amazing reasons to use the grounding cord. Being grounded allows you to become more intuitive and connect to your higher self so that you can hear the greater voice within you. When you keep yourself in a constant state of connection to the earth, you will rely on its power and peaceful energy in situations that in the past have led you to be in a lower emotional state, such as road rage.

Let’s say you are in your car and someone cuts you off. If you are in practice with the grounding cord you can think of it, use it and find that you are not thinking of the person that just cut you off and is now gone, but rather you are present within self. You are connected to Mother Earth, and she is supporting you and nurturing you. You angst dissipates in the presence of such love.

Another situation where this comes in very handy is when you find yourself thinking of something in your past or future that is causing stress. When you notice this happening you can use the grounding cord to bring you back to the present. When you are fully present, you are fueled with life energy. This is the optimal way to live in this world for the sake of your spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health.

Meditation: The Internal Journey

In a recent Podcast called PGP (Pretty Good Podcast) I was interviewed about what I do and how different aspects of my work actually work. Click here to listen One of the topics we focused on was meditation. Gina Grad, one of the hosts of the show, asked me to help her understand what meditation is for. What she thought it was, and what many people seem to think about meditation is this; sitting with your eyes closed trying to clear your mind and not have any thoughts. After about 30 seconds of attempting to do this, boredom sets in, your mind wanders, and the lack of understanding about what it is all for becomes frustrating and seemingly impossible to do. This deters the effort and yet another person just moves on and does not think about meditating again.

In the beginning I thought exactly what I described above. As time went on and I began to study different techniques of meditation and asked questions about its uses and beneficial aspects, I saw many reasons to do it and the potential for what it can do for me in my day to day life. What I found to be the common denominator of what any meditation is all about, is the internal journey.

Our lives in this culture indicate to us that the most important thing is the external journey, and some may say that it is the only thing.  We go from sleep to breakfast to car to work to lunch to car to home to dinner to sleep. We plan and consume and worry. Basically once we awaken in the morning the rest of the day is about what is the next thing to do. Where to go, what to buy, what to say. When we meditate our direction is to go within.  This internal journey is the simplest form of presence. Each day that we set forth to go within allows for the external journey to be more expansive. The fulfilling things become more fulfilling and the aggravating things become less aggravating. Meditation helps one balance the external world with the clarity and balance that comes from one’s internal world. You become present, and life becomes balanced and grounded by taking the time to go within.
To use meditation you have to be able to wrap your mind around how to do it and why you are doing it. How to do it is simple; all it takes is you and some time. You sit in a chair or on the floor, close your eyes and begin to do rhythmic breathing, in through the nose for 3 to 5 seconds and then out the nose 3 to 5 seconds. Following the breath with your mind will allow you to become more relaxed. Just focusing on your breath alone, for five to ten minutes a day will change your life. Thoughts will creep in…and that’s OK. Simply move your attention back to your breath and keep going.
Once you settle in and feel comfortable with your breath another technique is to visualize a grounding cord. You will want to focus your mind on a light beam or imagine a tree trunk or root from your tailbone to the earth. You want to keep this focus and connect with the earth throughout your meditation. Imagine this grounding cord---actually see it in your mind’s eye—and know that it goes all the way to the center of the planet. The focus of your breath and the grounding cord will keep you present so that when the past thoughts and future thoughts begin to rush your mind you can notice them and then go back to the image of the cord and the acknowledgement of your breathing.
The practice of daily meditation gives you fuel for the day. When you meditate you align your bodies for the day (spiritual, emotional, mental and physical bodies) and just like putting gas in your car to enable it to run, so too is doing a daily meditation. You are giving yourself a state of being that will allow your walk through the day to be more expansive, patient and alive.
Meditation allows you access to presence more readily throughout your day. When you are using the grounding cord to connect you to the earth you are present. This process done every day will change your life! The day to day aggravations will lessen, and you will begin to notice that in former moments of pain, such as conflict with a loved one or a stranger (road rage!) you will be able to revert back to being grounded and find that you are not reacting to, but rather are beginning to respond to, situations.
Finally you will notice that your health is improving. You will see that your spiritual body is affecting your emotional body in a positive way. When your emotional body is in a positive state your mental body will feel strong as well. When your mind is strong your physical body follows and the synergistic flow of who you are is living in a peaceful, expanded, and full state of being.

Spiritual Foundation

Within my work I help my clients by working with the whole person. The whole person is a synergistic combination of bodies which include the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical bodies. To begin I help with the understanding of the spiritual body.

The spiritual body is a make up of chakras, meridians, prana and the aura.  One does not have to know how this energetic system works.  All that has to be known is that there is this spiritual system and then using guided tools to help ground and align oneself with in it.

There are three techniques that I use with my clients to balance the spiritual body.  The first is meditation.  Meditation is a tool that fuels, aligns and balances the spiritual body.  To incorporate meditation into everyday living will allow a person to create a more expansive world within themselves to deal with the expansive world they live in outside of themselves. Meaning the daily walk through each day such as family, work and social exchange.

The second technique that makes up the spiritual foundation is grounding. This tool allows a constant presence in oneself. To be able to ground yourself at any moment of the day, especially in stressful situations, can bring great relief to a persons' psyche and well-being. It benefits all area of life...family, work and social exchange.

The third technique that makes up the spiritual foundation is active listening. This tool allows a person to slow down and remain in a simplistic groove through the day.  To be able to hear not only others fully but also to hear the higher self that is in constant communication with self.  When one can hear all that is around and within them life can be a much easier place to be in.

A spiritual foundation is the cornerstone of a healthier and fulfilling you. I have found the three techniques I mentioned- meditation, grounding, and active listenin-- to be of immense benefit. By balancing your spiritual body you will find that all of your other bodies...emotional, mental and physical, will also live in a higher vibration.  When your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical body are at ease you find yourself with amazing energy and your well being is maintained at its optimal health.

Healing Guy Blogs

Hello Everyone,

These blogs will be for anyone that is interested in healing the whole person.  I will discuss a different topic every week, based on one my recent sessions, or something that strkes me as significant to write about from throughout my 16 years of doing what I do with my clients.

This is very exciting to me. My gut is telling me that by sharing the accounts of real people--their struggles, their burdens and their pains--people will identify with these stories. By also sharing the work we do--the breakthroughs, the healing, the lessons we learn in our sessions--I am confident my readers will learn and grow as well. Techonology has made it possible for me to not just help one person at a time, but also, hopefully, to help many.

I thank you in advance for joining the community and being a part of the Healing Guy blog.

In Light and Love,

Todd
